The Bible says --
Love thy neighbor as thyself. (Leviticus 19:18)
Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. (Matthew 22:39)
And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. (Luke 6:31)

The Catholic catechism of 1583 says --
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

          But --
Do not do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Their values, or their preferences,
may not be the same as yours
If you are being attacked or injured, the golden rule is nonsense.
A judge sentencing a criminal cannot follow the golden rule.
A sadist is just a masochist following the golden rule.

          The cynics say --
Love thy neighbor -- and if he or she happens to be devastatingly sexy, it will be easier.
Do unto others before they do unto you,
He who has the gold makes the rules.
The Bible says: Love your neighbor as yourself. Buddha says: There is no self. So,maybe we're
     off the hook?

And George Bernard Shaw had the last word, in Maxims for Revolutionists --
The golden rule is that there are no golden rules.
