HOW DOTH                                      HOW DOTH
THE LITTLE CROCODILE            THE HEBREW TRANSLATOR
by Lewis Carroll                                 by Laura Schoffman

How doth the little crocodile                How doth the Hebrew translator
Improve his shining tail,                      Improve each shining tale,
And pour the waters of the Nile           And raise its simple register
On every golden scale!                       In literary scale!

How cheerfully he seems to grin          How happily he spreads it thin,
How neatly spreads his claws,            And neatly turns his clauses,
And welcomes little fishes in,              And lets us fill his lapses in
With gently smiling jaws!                    With deeply pregnant pauses!
